The re-opening of Diyala Church in Iraq, was made possible thanks to Asia, a 25-year-old Muslim woman.
Asia participated in one of the Hiwarouna workshops in Erbil (Iraq), where she followed a capacity building workshop on conflict analysis, dialogue, facilitation, negotiation and designing community-based activities. Asia believes that everyone should have the right to pray and pursue their rituals in a safe place. Equipped with her knowledge, great network and a financial grant from the Hiwarouna project, Asia restored and reopened the Diyala Church to the local Christian community. Today, after 15 years of being destroyed and left in ruins, the Church is conducting baptisms, weddings and other church related functions again.
